From the snapping tests I have done on this lock it performs just as good as Avocet ABS. Both have a sacrificial cut about 10mm back from the front of the lock, both have a second pre determined sacrificial section right in front of the cam. Both lock the cam once the cylinder is broken on the second sacrificial part blocking access to the gearbox. So from a snapping point of view they both offer exactly the same levels of security.

The Brisant Ultion has finally achieved TS007 3 star and sold secure diamond standard. As far as I’m aware there is only one other lock which has achieved sold secure diamond and that’s the Avocet ABS. Both the ABS and the Ultion were designed by Steve Stewart so that’s quite an achievement being the only person to ever design a lock that has got through the diamond test. Since there’s only the Ultion and ABS that have managed to get the Sold Secure Diamond accreditation this post will be a little bit of a comparison between the two locks.

In the same way as all Brisant locks, you can manipulate, build, switch, and duplicate Ultion locks on site. You don’t have to make return visit when you have fetched or even ordered the right lock. Ultion is as friendly to the locksmith as it nasty to the intruder.

The Ultion is a dimple lock but doesn’t come with a key registration card. The key number is stamped onto the key head instead. Like all of the Brisant range of locks the Ultion is a non handed dual colour lock meaning its very easy to stock. According to Steve it means carrying 75% less stock than the Avocet ABS. Finally, because Ultion has 11 pins (creating 294,000 key combinations) there is no need to create extra deep key dimples for debris to hide and sneak into the lock.

Cylinders come in 5mm increments, do not reduce the size of your cylinder if your lock sticks out of the existing handle by less than 5mm. PVC french doors sometimes have special central sections making it very difficult to remove and refit a cylinder lock. Please call for advice.

We know how important it is that you always have a lock to suit every eventuality, but equally important is the overwhelming amount of cash tied up in van stock. That’s why Ultion has a clever dual-colour design – cutting the amount of stock you need in half. And then, by putting the unbeaten security features in both sides of the lock you halve your stock again not having to buy and carry ‘handed’ anti-snap locks.

Normal, handed anti-snap locks feature a single sacrificial section and focus on strength to make snapping harder. Except the strength is never enough to withstand the force leveraged from a burglar's mole grips. On each end of an Ultion cylinder there are two sacrificial elements, each designed to snap with relative ease, but more importantly in exactly the right place. When snapped the central cam is directly and independently locked – not to an attackable internal plug.

Whenever your Ultion key goes missing the app records it’s last known location on a map. When another TrackR app user comes within range of your key, you will receive an email update with the location of your key.

Now the standard lock for most of the UK’s leading door manufacturers, the ultion cylinder is approved by the Master Locksmith Association and is certified as 3 star Sold Secure Diamond Tested - the highest accolade available for a euro cylinder.

The standard locks fitted to millions of UPVC doors across the country can be broken in seconds; Known as an euro profile lock, if you have these ‘snappable’ locks in your doors, it means that you may be increasing your risk of break in and burglary.

To remove or insert a euro-cylinder the key must be turned slightly to line the tongue of the central cam up with the body of the lock, this will enable the cylinder lock to slide in or out. Getting the amount of key turn may require a bit of trial and error, but usually it requires a 15 to 20 degree turn either to the left or right, this is shown clearly on the video. If there is any resistance to removing the cylinder it can help to just loosen the handle screws - sometimes a slightly offset handle can put pressure on the cylinder making it a little stiffer.

Brisant make locks for locksmiths. When you need multiple locks key’d alike you simply log into our site, tell us the size and quantity, and wait for DPD to send you a text telling you what time the next day you’ll get your delivery. Remember, not to tell us about the handing or the colour – it doesn’t matter!

The Ultion lock has been tested to the needs of the British Standard TS007 3 star standard, without having to be bolstered with an expensive high security handle. When Ultion is locked it is the actual center cam that gets independantly secured, not secured to the internal plug – this means that even when the key is left on the inside of the lock, Ultion is still secure.

Anti drill pins have featured in existing high end locks for a while. Ultion however has 6, in both sides of the body (because it is non-handed!). So the burglar meets the first two in the sacrificial section of the cylinder. But if he decides to snap the lock first then go for the drill he’ll find his drill bit fighting against 4 more anti-drill pins. In the plug itself is a further 8 (each side of course) and two anti drill plates (yes... each side!)

The ULTImate standard that other 3-star anti-snap locks want but don’t get. This is the rigours of the TS007 3-star but with added aggression, and tested by an MLA locksmith. The tester is allowed more access around the lock, more tools, freedom to break the material surrounding the lock and the ability to pause the clock to consider a different tack – Ultion will also be tested to this standard.

In the same way as all Brisant locks, you can manipulate, build, switch, and duplicate Ultion locks on site. You don’t have to make return visit when you have fetched or even ordered the right lock. Ultion is as friendly to the locksmith as it nasty to the intruder.

Clearly much as we here would love you to order a new door, we recognise that we are talking two very different budgets and if it is only the Caps or Rings that you are interested in you are missing out on a great new door but we will still provide you with the “Caps”/”Rings” you require – simply visit our web site, the home of all your security needs.

The ULTImate standard that other 3-star anti-snap locks want but don’t get. This is the rigours of the TS007 3-star but with added aggression, and tested by an MLA locksmith. The tester is allowed more access around the lock, more tools, freedom to break the material surrounding the lock and the ability to pause the clock to consider a different tack – Ultion will also be tested to this standard.

One thing we need to hope for with Ultion is that the prices are not screwed down online like they are with some locks. Brisant has always used “locks for locksmiths” as there slogan. That’s locks for locksmiths to make money on though as well as them being locksmith friendly. Some of the top quality anti snaps are so hard to sell to customers now due to them being sold so cheaply online and sometimes cheaper than we can buy them from trade suppliers! This means we can’t make a mark up on the locks at all and when you give a customer a price including labour they run a mile claiming they can get the lock themselves at half the price! Lets hope this doesn’t happen to Ultion!

Only a small handful of window locks use code series keys. If your lock does have a key number it will only be stamped on the key. If there is no number please send us a photo of an existing key or a up close image of the handle, so we can identify what key you require.

We do try to work normal business hours - however if a customer is prepared to pay extra for a product or service to be delivered out of hours due to an emergency we are happy to quote a price when needed.

We do not expect customers old or new to order a new front door just to get a handful of key caps or rings – but when the doors ae as good as our door range is its always worth considering – a quick visit to web site might just be the temtation you need superb styles and colours security and increased themal insulation guaranteed and masses of accessories including of course the above caps and Rings.

The Ultion is a dimple lock but doesn’t come with a key registration card. The key number is stamped onto the key head instead. Like all of the Brisant range of locks the Ultion is a non handed dual colour lock meaning its very easy to stock. According to Steve it means carrying 75% less stock than the Avocet ABS. Premium high security branded front door locks such as Yale Superior, Magnum, Cisa, Iseo, Garrison and Mul-T-Lock give you a key code card to record a key cutting number for your lock (If you have lost the key code card we still may be able to help if you email us a clear image - See Section below). However many of the standard and lower security brands do not record any key numbers and these can not be cut to code.

The most talked differences are the type of plastic; ABS and PBT. In general, PBT is seen as superior over ABS keycaps, because it’s stiffer, durable (just don’t hit it with a hammer), stays true in color and doesn’t develop a shine effect over time. Take a look at your keyboard, most likely you’ll find some glossy keys.

Also, there are no magnets on the key. This means that damaging metal scrapings from coins and other keys are not carried into the lock when stuck magnetically on the key. Finally, because Ultion has 11 pins (creating 294,000 key combinations) there is no need to create extra deep key dimples for debris to hide and sneak into the lock.

Meaning a burglar will not only have to drill through the first two in the sacrificial section of the cylinder, but then, if they want to snap the lock, they'll have to try and drill through 8 more anti-drill pins.

The Brisant Ultion manages to be non-handed because the firing pin which locks into the cam fires from underneath when the cylinder is snapped at the second pre-determined weak spot which is just in front of the cam, locking the cam in place. Because the pin fires from underneath this means one can be built into each side of the cylinder meaning that no matter which way around you fit the lock there is always a firing pin ready to lock the cam on the external side of the cylinder. When you actually see it in action it’s a really clever idea and seems like one of those, why did nobody else think of that ideas? One big plus point is that when a key is left on the inside of an Ultion the cam locking mechanism still activates, when I have tested this on an ABS with a key on the inside it stops the mechanism firing meaning the cam can be turned when its not supposed to.

Here its all in the name – security is our business and our recommendation is always going to be that the conscientious householder should maximise the number of Ultion locks they fit in their property and minimise the number of keys by going for the “one key system –

Anti drill pins have featured in existing high end locks for a while. Ultion however has 6, in both sides of the body (because it is non-handed!). So the burglar meets the first two in the sacrificial section of the cylinder. But if he decides to snap the lock first then go for the drill he’ll find his drill bit fighting against 4 more anti-drill pins. In the plug itself is a further 8 (each side of course) and two anti drill plates (yes... each side!)

From the snapping tests I have done on this lock it performs just as good as Avocet ABS. Both have a sacrificial cut about 10mm back from the front of the lock, both have a second pre determined sacrificial section right in front of the cam. Both lock the cam once the cylinder is broken on the second sacrificial part blocking access to the gearbox. So from a snapping point of view they both offer exactly the same levels of security.

We all need to make a stand against this rapidly increasing problem! I like to give as much information to help educate people on the importance of security and I feel that hiding such details and then charging a payment for my knowledge can be just as bad as the person committing the robbery, when in fact most of the knowledge can be common sense. 

I have been fortunate enough to see the Brisant Ultion quite a lot at different stages of the design process and have tested quite a lot with Steve, snapping, bumping and picking so I know quite a lot about the lock. Although I know Steve this is a completely impartial review based on what I’ve and learned as I’ve seen the lock being developed. When I first ever met Steve he told me about his plans to make “locks for locksmiths” and make Brisants full range of locks locksmith friendly. Euro cylinders are used in the vast majority of double glazed doors, french doors and patio doors they are used to secure the door's multi point locking system.Cylinder door locks are not difficult to replace if you have basic DIY skills, you only need two measurements.Your cylinder locks should be as flush as possible with the handles, maximum projection is 5mm - if you current lock sticks out by more than 5mm either side of the hanldes then choose a smaller size....

Normal, handed anti-snap locks feature a single sacrificial section and focus on strength to make snapping harder. Except the strength is never enough to withstand the force leveraged from a burglar's mole grips. On each end of an Ultion cylinder there are two sacrificial elements, each designed to snap with relative ease, but more importantly in exactly the right place.
